Oil Filter

I'll be doing my first oil change on my 05 LGT this weekend and was wondering where I should get the oil filter from. Cdn Tire? Part Source? CarQuest? Or get the OEM one from the dealership?

Do I need a crush washer for the drain plug (as suggested in this PDF: http://www.xmission.com/~gold/2005_Legacy_GT_Oil.pdf)?

Is there anything else I should check, lube, or look for while under the car or doing the oil change (it's currently at 143,000km)?

IMO

For the oil change - I use OEM - get it from the dealer - shop around - should be around $10-$12

crush washer - change it every time you take the plug out - cheap insurance ~$1.50 - again from the dealer

You could try online sources too - such as:

As for any other maintenance - follow the schedule in the owner's manual

If you're planning on doing your oil changes and keeping the car a long time picke up 10 crush washers from the dealer, I think I paid $7.

As far as the oil filter goes; I prefer the Napa Gold ones which are the same as the Wix. I've had a problem with an OEM oil filter splitting down the side, and was told by my dealership that it's not the first one they've seen since Subaru stopped using the 'good' filters. 97Legopieces on here is an amsoil dealer and can give you good pricing on the Wix filters; I should know I just grabbed a dozen off him.

I use oem filters $9. Crush ring new every time $0.69. The old white ones weren't so good. I like the new Bly filters.
